MTV gets diversity award for destroying civilization

It has been awhile and work at the "academy" (at least that's what I call it) feels like I'm back at school. No one never said that national security was going to be a walk in the park. I was reading my email one day, several weeks ago, and I came across a bit of news being flashed by the email news service about some PC think tank called the Walter Kaitz Foundation awarding MTV Networks with the Diversity Champion Honor award. Yes, I know this just might be late news, but better late than never.
Ah yes, let's examine this bastion of "diversity":

  • Yo Momma: A show created by Wilmer Valderama (or whatever) which pits (mostly minority) teens against each by spewing racial, sexual and personal insults against each other for the sake of the reaction of the crowd. Sort of like verbal gladiators. The sort of things that create "beefs" and get teenagers mindlessly killed. Of course, MTV passes this off as "rivalries".
  • Elimidate, Next et al: So-called reality dating shows that play up the sexual risque sex factor along with the occasional spewing of insults and sometimes near vile sexual inuendo.
  • Where My Dogs At: Aside from violating the English language with this title, it is a Saturday afternoon "cartoon" show (read: appealing to little kids) where black women are seen as dogs on leashes, defecating on the floor (codeword: bitches).
  • Hip-hop music videos: I really don't think I need to explain this unless you've been hiding under a rock.

Alas, the ghastly list can go on.
Yes, an industry that has taken the WORST (what happened to Alicia Keys and India Arie) excuses that passes for talent from the minority community and has wasted very little effort in highlighting these dysfunctions as "culture". Are you kidding me? Several weeks ago, Sumner Redstone "fired" tom Cruise because of his recent "embarrassing" behavior and the potential of its impact on the "reputation" of Paramount. Apparently, Mr. Redstone was concerned about Paramount being embarrassed he didn't have to look far especially when he controls Viacom which controls (dun dun dun) MTV Networks. Oh I get it, jumping up on couches and babbling eccentric Scientology crap ... bad for business. Young folks and minorities marinating in stereotypes and vile behavior ... good for business.
Allow me to say what some are not willing to say. Mr. Redstone and company has pretty much said that it is more financially viable to broadcast young, clueless minorities (marinating in ignorance and dysfunction) to millions of households (many of them, white) than to deal with the likes of Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise folks. Tom "Jerry Maguire screaming show me the money" Cruise. Tom "Maverick" Cruise that had the "need for speed in Top Gun. Tom "dancing to Bob Seger's Old Time Rock and Roll in his underwear" Cruise. As Homer Simpson would say, "great merciful crap". Hmm, let's see ... who's more bankable? Black folks behaving ridiculous or Tom Cruise? Young annoying walking STD cases or the star power of Tom Cruise? Several years ago I'm sure the answer would be so damn straight forward (Tom Cruise) that even Stevie Wonder on a dark night during the Dark ages would have figured it out. But times have changed ... unfortunately not for the best.
And the wonderful folks at the Walter Kaitz Foundation feels this is the embodiment of "diversity". At least some folks have a clue and there is some hope for humanity. Some. Folks, feel free to salute the people at Walter Kaitz ... and the Four Horsemen as they pass on by.

I remember when MTV actually played videos and had no commercials, and the moon man told the time between videos.

By 1984, I was an early burn-out. The videos had become junk. I don't think I've even turned to that channel in over 10 years (I did love Beavis and Butthead in the early 90's).

I agree whole heartedly: MTV has become pure crap, promoting a crap lifestyle.

Giving MTV a diversity award is like giving 50 Cent an NAACP Image Award

Welcome back, Tyler. We missed you.
After reading articles like this, I'm almost grateful for never having cable. Yes, I had to watch WPIX summer re-runs for thirteen years straight (think: Short Circuit 1 and 2, Flash Gordon, Willow), but what the hell.

Incidentally, have you seen the article in the NY Times about African-American families in Queens having higher salaries than their white counterparts? (All I know is my family isn't one of them! Shoot.) :)
